My name is Dushime Espérance, I came to Aspire in 2009 and I graduated in 2011.
I started from level 0 because I had no career and no expectations to ever gain skills. Today I have gained the skills that I never expected to obtain.
At Humanity Unified, we pay empowerment forward by raising funds for our current partner, Aspire, an organization that provides women in Rwanda with the opportunity to receive education and economic opportunities so that they may rise out of poverty. By purchasing a pack of our bookmarks, you have the opportunity to not only support our cause, but to pass along the message of empowerment to your friends, family and even strangers.
HU team member Paige Patterson shares her experience in seeing extreme poverty for the first time and how it affected her views on what is needed to help people lift themselves out of desperate situations.
In order for people to be able to rise out of poverty, they need to feel empowered and have the opportunity to build their own lives through a self-sustaining income. A solution cannot be found in simply handing over cash donations and goods. People need to know that they are in control of their own lives and that the power to beat poverty is in their own hands.
About a month ago, the HU team spent some time thinking about ways we could spread kindness among people in a way that is easy, fun and inspiring. After days and days of brainstorming, we built an idea that was sparked by our marketing and design guru, Mike Morana (thanks Mike!).
Imagine a world where we all believed that our life was only meant to be used to better the lives of others. To give, to love, to share, to support, to EMPOWER....
