One of my favorite songs is Long Drive by Jason Mraz . I love the meaning behind the lyrics and how it forces me to reflect on the importance of appreciating the time it takes to allow life to unfold with all its lessons, hardships, successes and heartbreaks. When I think back to when I started developing the program in Rwanda with Anthony and our local partner, Aspire Rwanda, I realize I wanted so badly to set things up and start helping people. But that's not how it works. No one person can change the world alone, no matter how badly we want to. I learned our project needed to be led by the community and we needed to take the time to listen and help facilitate - building the program day by day, step by step. For things to change, people need to do it themselves and the rest of us need to stand by to lend our support. That's why we are all here. To take the long drive together, hopefully holding hands along the way, investing in each other's dreams.
Update: On October 7 - after months of work preparing the farm and completing a series of educational trainings - our women completed the first planting using the seeds you invested in to empower them. From the bottom of our hearts thank you! We are so excited to show you the abundant harvest in January!
