Holding Hands to Help Haiti

by Maria Russo

I wish there was an answer to why terrible things happen in this world. If you're like me, and love learning about different places, people and cultures, you also realize how incredibly sad and difficult life can be.

Just a few days ago, Haiti was battered yet again by a natural disaster. This will mean lives lost, homes destroyed, people displaced, outbreaks of disease and once again rebuilding the country and its economy from the ground up. It's heartbreaking, but there are ways all of us fortunate enough not to have endured such a crisis can help.

If you plan to give, I encourage you to really do your homework on the organization you support. Large organizations like UNICEF, Red Cross and WFP often squander money and aren't always held accountable like smaller organizations are (the UN admitted to playing a role in the spread of cholera after the earthquake due to pure negligence). Some organizations I support are @rebuildglobally @partnersinhealth and @doctorswithoutborders

Let's continue to hold each other's hand through the storms and strife finding love in it all.

If you know of other amazing organizations working on disaster relief in Haiti please share in the comments below.
